A formal announcement by the automated tellert machine manufacturer Wednesday confirmeed the job cuts but gave no Company spokesman Alicia Blandza said the jobs cuts in Memphis were aminimal number. The company release said it laidoff "a limites number" of staff as part of a consolidation of its customer services activities to its corporatew headquarters office. The company had said it expectedf to employ as many as 30 atits 30,000-square-footy call, support and training center in Bartlett when it opened in mid-2006. The parts distribution, repairs and training functionsd will continue to operatdefrom Memphis, the company said.
"As major distributiob hub, the facility in Memphis allows for greatedr accessibility for both domestic and global customers with longer houra availablefor shipments," the company stated in Wednesday'sw release. The Associated Press earlier reportedf that theLong Beach, Miss., company was eliminatinf an unspecified number of jobs most at its headquarter s and manufacturing plant in Long Triton's human resources director Brian Goff told the AP the cuts affecteed less than one-third of the staff but gave no specififc numbers. Prior to the layoffs on Tuesday the companty had about 500 employeescompanhy wide.
The cuts were being made as the companty focuses more of its efforts onNorth America. "Rather than chaswe business inother markets, we're going to focud on North America, the market that builgt this company," Goff told the AP. Triton's Memphis offices is located at7585 A.E. Beatuy Drive. Triton, a division of DOV) is the second largest ATM makefr in North America and the fourtg largest inthe world. There are 145,009 Triton units operating in 23 according tothe company.
